A Lovingston, Virginia Bed and Breakfast: The Orchard House B&B

We enjoyed a complimentary stay at the Orchard House, a Lovingston, Virginia bed and breakfast. All opinions are my own.

Tucked into the rolling hills of Nelson County, Orchard House Bed and Breakfast offers a stay that feels both elevated and deeply personal. Surrounded by vineyards with the Blue Ridge Mountains in the distance, it’s a destination that captures the essence of a Lovingston, Virginia bed and breakfast—scenic, welcoming, and thoughtfully curated.

While the setting is undeniably beautiful, what truly defines a stay here is the people behind it.

At the heart of Orchard House is Sarah, a host who feels, unmistakably, like she was made to be an innkeeper.

From the moment we arrived, she welcomed us with a warmth that set the tone for the entire weekend. She anticipated needs before we could ask, checked in throughout our stay, and created an environment that felt both thoughtful and effortless. It’s evident that she loves what she does, and her hospitality is unparalleled.

Sarah and her husband, Caleb, have transformed Orchard House into something truly special. What was once a historic home is now a beautifully designed and highly intentional space that reflects both their vision and care. During our stay, we also had the chance to meet their four boys, who brought such a sense of life and personality to the property. It’s clear this is a family endeavor and one that the local community genuinely loves and supports.

A Lovingston, Virginia Bed and Breakfast Experience

Orchard House offers multiple ways to experience the property.

The main house features beautifully appointed guest rooms, each with its own character and private en-suite bathroom, blending historic charm with modern comfort. For those traveling together, there is also a separate farmhouse on-site, ideal for groups or longer stays while still enjoying the amenities of the inn.

The grounds themselves invite you to slow down. Guests can spend time by the pond, relax at the pool, or wander through the vineyard.

The vineyard is a special part of the property’s story. With vines originally brought from France over 20 years ago, Orchard House now produces small-batch wines, including a Petit Manseng and Petit Verdot, available for guests to enjoy and purchase during their stay.

The inn also features an event space, making it a beautiful setting for weddings and gatherings.

For those looking to elevate their stay even further, Orchard House offers thoughtful add-ons, including a three-course dinner at the inn and a Girlfriend’s Getaway package—perfect for a relaxed, wine-filled weekend with friends.

And truly, this is a place made for it. This Lovingston, Virginia bed and breakfast blends historic charm and hospitality among the Blue Ridge Mountains and the state’s Monticello Wine Trail (more on that later).

Breakfast at Orchard House

Breakfast here is not simply included—it’s a highlight of the stay.

Each morning, guests are served a thoughtfully prepared two-course breakfast, and it quickly became one of our favorite parts of the weekend.

On our first morning, we were served a baked pear (my mom’s favorite) followed by a gouda cheese, bread, and bacon bake, accompanied by fresh fruit and smashed potatoes. Is your mouth watering yet?

The second morning began with a yogurt parfait and was followed by French toast with strawberries, chicken and apple sausage, and scrambled eggs.

Every dish was impeccable—another reason to book the three-course dinner add-on. It’s clear that Sarah puts as much care into the kitchen as she does into hosting, and those slow mornings around the table became some of our favorite moments of the trip.

Exploring Lovingston and Nelson County

While Orchard House is reason enough to visit, the surrounding area adds another layer to the experience—especially for those drawn to small towns, local businesses, and Virginia wine country.

Downtown Lovingston

Lovingston, Virginia may be small, but it is incredibly welcoming.

We spent time exploring local shops and meeting small business owners, and it quickly became one of the most memorable parts of our trip. There’s a warmth here that you feel immediately—genuine, inviting, and deeply rooted in community.

We especially loved:

• The HeArt of Nelson – A curated shop featuring local artisans
• Village Antiques and Cafe – Antiques, local goods, and a cozy café atmosphere
• Natural Necessities – A beautiful stop for essential oils and natural products

We left with more than just purchases—we left with conversations, connections, and a real appreciation for the community.

This was truly one of the most welcoming towns we’ve visited. We only wished we had more time!

Wineries, Scenic Drives, and the Monticello Wine Trail

Nelson County is part of the Monticello Wine Trail, one of the most celebrated wine regions on the East Coast.

Within a 30-mile radius of Orchard House, you’ll find 30+ wineries, breweries, cideries, and distilleries, making it an ideal destination for a wine-focused weekend or the perfect girls’ getaway in Virginia wine country.

We spent our afternoon at Pippin Hill Farm & Vineyards, where we enjoyed wine flights and a light lunch overlooking the Blue Ridge Mountains.

We also recommend:

• Brent Manor Vineyards – A quieter, scenic experience
• Lovingston Winery – Just minutes from the inn
• Virginia Distillery Co. – A beautifully designed distillery known for its American single malt whisky and elevated tasting experience

For a change of pace, the Blue Ridge Parkway is just a short drive away, offering scenic overlooks and nearby hiking trails that showcase the beauty of the region.

Where to Eat in Lovingston and Nearby

The food scene in and around Lovingston is relaxed, local, and full of personality. We enjoyed visiting Blue Mountain Brewery, perfect for outdoor dining, and The Bonfire.

Other places that came highly recommended and that we’ll opt for on our next trip are:

• Outback Brewhouse – A fun, welcoming spot just minutes from the B&B
• Dr. Ho’s Humble Pie – A local favorite for pizza
• Vito’s – Casual and comforting Italian
• El Mariachi – A great Mexican food option

A Place Worth Visiting

What stood out most about this trip wasn’t just the scenery or the wineries—it was the feeling of being welcomed.

Lovingston is the kind of place that invites you in, introduces you to its people, and makes you wish you had just one more day to stay.
