Timeless Charm at Liberty Hall B&B in Historic Pendleton, SC

We enjoyed a complimentary stay at Liberty Hall, a bed and breakfast in Pendleton, South Carolina. All opinions are my own.

Timeless charm meets Southern hospitality at Liberty Hall, a bed and breakfast in the heart of historic Pendleton, South Carolina.

History Meets Hospitality

Dating back to 1849, this bed and breakfast previously operated as a private residence, dairy farm, boarding house, university housing, inn and restaurant. And the history doesn’t stop with the inn — the entire town of Pendleton is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is home to one of the largest historic districts in the U.S.

The Bed and Breakfast

Smack dab in the historic district and tucked away among the rolling hills of the Upstate, Liberty Hall now boasts 10 beautiful guest rooms, each with a private en-suite bathroom and modern amenities.

Innkeepers Andy, Devon, Angela and Michael have welcomed guests since March 2022. One thing we love most about visiting B&Bs is getting to know the people who run them, and we enjoyed getting to know Andy and Devon this time around.

Asher and I stayed in Room 4, The Daffodil, and were met with signature Liberty Hall cookies and an ice bucket of Prosecco. The best part about this room is the easy access to the second floor veranda, adorned with rocking chairs and outdoor seating. If you’re in search of a more luxurious stay, you can book Room 1 with a private outside porch or one of the rooms with a claw-foot tub.

The bed and breakfast’s wrap-around verandas, sunroom and living area invite guests to enjoy laidback Southern days, sipping coffee or a glass of wine. For the active guests, Liberty Hall has two pickleball courts on the property.

A day at Liberty Hall begins with a Southern breakfast with traditional and creative favorites, like scones, parfaits, pancakes and eggs. The B&B also has exciting events in the near future, including weddings hosted at their new outdoor area and dinner pop-ups.

Exploring Pendleton & Beyond

Just minutes from Clemson University (attention Tiger fans), Liberty Hall would make for the perfect small-town getaway or stay during football season. Asher and I even visited the South Carolina Botanical Garden during our trip. For outdoor enthusiasts, the area is also home to hiking trails and lakes.

The real highlight, though, is the charming and quaint downtown Pendleton, studded with boutiques, an ice cream shop, an art gallery, restaurants, distilleries and a wine bar. We highly recommend making a reservation at 1826 Bistro, an elegant restaurant focused on seasonal and locally sourced ingredients. The food is simply a work of art and tastes just as good as it looks. For rum drinkers, we recommend making a stop at Swamp Fox Distilling (a favorite of the innkeepers) for a unique experience, and for eclectic wine connoisseurs, you can’t miss The Gypsy Wine Bar.

We highly recommend planning a visit to Liberty Hall Bed and Breakfast. Don’t forget to let them know we sent you.
